where are we and how to get here?

mapSan Juanico is located on the west coast of the Baja Peninsula approximately 650 miles south of San Diego. To drive down, take Highway 1 down the peninsula to San Ignacio. Once in San Ignacio, you can either take the North Road or Highway 1 to San Juanico. The North Road travels along the Pacific coast and is generally not recommended if you’re unfamiliar with it. While it can save you several hours, it is unmarked and unpaved, and the terrain can be very unforgiving. Highway 1 (also known as the South Road) is paved all the way. Take Highway 1 to Loreto and across the peninsula to Ciudad Insurgentes. From Ciudad Insurgentes, head north for about an hour until you get to the Las Barrancas turnoff. This is marked by a sign that points ahead to San Isidro and La Purisima and to the left for San Juanico. (WARNING: If you’re using Google Maps, it will take you to San Juanico via La Purisima and the old road. The old road is not maintained and is impassable. Do not take that route. You will get stuck). The sign pointing to San Juanico is covered with stickers and is easy to miss. Take a left onto this road and follow it almost all the way into Las Barrancas, about 10 minutes. Right before you enter Las Barrancas, the road will fork to the right and there is a sign indicating the way to San Juanico. It is about 40 minutes from Las Barrancas to San Juanico. Once you get to San Juanico, the Casitas are located on Calle La Bocana. It will be the third street on your left as you drive into town. We are halfway down the block, across from Cristi’s Taqueria. If you can’t find us, just ask around. It's a small and friendly town.

The closest airport is Loreto, with international flights on Alaska Airlines direct from LAX. Domestic flights are available on Calafia Airlines and Volaris Airlines and are often quite inexpensive. From San Diego it is possible to walk from the US side of the border across the CBX Border Crossing to the Tijuana Airport to catch a domestic flight from Tijuana to Loreto. Please see our “links” section for more information. Rental cars are available in Loreto: Alamo, Budget, Europcar, Ace, and Hertz. The drive from Loreto is approximately 3.5 hours on paved roads, although some sections are potholed and there is occasional road construction.
